Summary

Beloved New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis begins a new series--Sunrise Cove--set near beautiful Lake Tahoe, with a heartwarming story of found family and love。

During the snowstorm of the century Levi Cutler is stranded on a ski lift with a beautiful stranger named Jane。 After strong winds hurl the gondola in front of them into the ground, Levi calls his parents to prepare them for the worst。。。but can't bring himself to say goodbye。 Instead, wanting to fulfill his mother's lifelong wish, he impulsively tells her he's happily settled and Jane is his girlfriend--right before his phone dies。

But Levi and Jane do not。

Now Levi's family is desperate to meet "The One。" Though Jane agrees to be his pretend girlfriend for just one dinner, she's nervous。 After a traumatic childhood, Jane isn't sure she knows how to be around a tight-knit family that cherishes one another。 She's terrified, and a little jealous。 But an unexpected series of events and a host of new friends soon show Jane that perhaps this is the life she was always meant to have。

As Jane and Levi spend more time together, pretend feelings quickly turn into real ones。 Now all Jane has to do is admit to herself she can't live without the man she's fallen in love with and the family she has always dreamed of。

I always highly enjoy Shalvis's books for the relationships, not only between the 2 MCs but often relationships of families in the books。Levi and Jane, strangers, are trapped in a snowstorm in a ski gondola。 When the one in front of them falls, Levi calls his mom。 Thinking he could die, he tells her he's happy and that he's with his girlfriend, Jane。Jane has never had a great family unit, being shuffled from home to home between relatives。 So she reluctantly agrees to be Levi's girlfriend for a I always highly enjoy Shalvis's books for the relationships, not only between the 2 MCs but often relationships of families in the books。Levi and Jane, strangers, are trapped in a snowstorm in a ski gondola。 When the one in front of them falls, Levi calls his mom。 Thinking he could die, he tells her he's happy and that he's with his girlfriend, Jane。Jane has never had a great family unit, being shuffled from home to home between relatives。 So she reluctantly agrees to be Levi's girlfriend for a family party。I really like Levi's family。 I like what they do to get to know Jane。 I like how sweet and patient Levi is。 Their chemistry is amazing。 I love that we also get a side romance story between Jane's friend Charlotte and Mateo。 。。。more

This started off moderately strong for me and then fizzled out as it went on。 There are a lot of loose ends that never really get tied up, and it gets a bit too cheesy for my personal taste (I don’t mind a good, cheesy story, but I have my limits)。It’s also worth mentioning — there are some one-off, diet culture comments here (like saying that a muffin is an “entire day’s calories”) and I cannot believe that in 2021 we are still including this sort of harmful diet chatter in our books。On the bri This started off moderately strong for me and then fizzled out as it went on。 There are a lot of loose ends that never really get tied up, and it gets a bit too cheesy for my personal taste (I don’t mind a good, cheesy story, but I have my limits)。It’s also worth mentioning — there are some one-off, diet culture comments here (like saying that a muffin is an “entire day’s calories”) and I cannot believe that in 2021 we are still including this sort of harmful diet chatter in our books。On the bright side, the characters are pretty likable (although I found myself wanting more from the secondary love story!)If you’re a Hallmark movie lover, you’ll probably enjoy this。 If not, skip it。 。。。more

Disclaimer- I received an ARC from Goodreads but that did not influence my review。 Another disclaimer is that I love all the books by Jill Shalvis so no surprise that I loved this one too! Fell in love with Levi in the first chapter! Then in the next chapters he became the man of my dreams, lol。 Ah, there are so many broken families and people in this world but Jill Shalvis has solutions in this book。 Even I want to be a part of “The Family You Made”。 With my family not able to be together these pandemic years I realize my neighbors have become like family too。 Perfect book for this season and this new year 😍🤗

Jane and Levi, both afraid to make commitments, meet and bond over a shared near death experience。 They try to deny the attraction to each other。 They come to accept that the family they make are the people who are around them that love and care for them。 I received an ARC from NetGalley and William Morrow and Custom House for my honest review。

This is my first by this author and it definitely won't be my last。 The Family You Make is really all about families, both born and blood。 Both Jane and Levi have events from their past that have caused them to move away and have deeply impacted their relationships in the present。 Jane never lets herself get attached to anyone and tends to move around a lot as a traveling nurse, never staying for long in one place。 Levi has things from his past that caused him move far from his family。 Both find This is my first by this author and it definitely won't be my last。 The Family You Make is really all about families, both born and blood。 Both Jane and Levi have events from their past that have caused them to move away and have deeply impacted their relationships in the present。 Jane never lets herself get attached to anyone and tends to move around a lot as a traveling nurse, never staying for long in one place。 Levi has things from his past that caused him move far from his family。 Both find themselves back in Levi's hometown and stranded together in a situation from which they are afraid they won't survive。 Impulsively Levi tells his mom that Jane is his girlfriend, so when they do survive, he convinces her to continue to pretend。This story was so fantastic - there are so many layers and depths to Jane and Levi and all of the interconnected people within their lives。 I loved getting to know all of them and am almost sad to reach the end。 The Family You Make was a sweet, heartfelt and heartwarming romance and was the perfect book to read on a snowy day。 It was deep and emotional but leaves you feeling really good at the end。 LOVED this and can't wait to read more by this author。 。。。more

Fine series starter by Shalvis, the gondola accident was a bit scary (after having some anxiety issues riding them in Teluride when I visited I was just like oh shit YIKES), but overall an enjoyable if forgettable listen。 I need to revisit my eARC to catch some details, but there's also a secondary romance and found family elements。Thank you to the publisher for the ARC。 Fine series starter by Shalvis, the gondola accident was a bit scary (after having some anxiety issues riding them in Teluride when I visited I was just like oh shit YIKES), but overall an enjoyable if forgettable listen。 I need to revisit my eARC to catch some details, but there's also a secondary romance and found family elements。Thank you to the publisher for the ARC。 。。。more

It's been a long time since I've loved one of Jill Shalvis' books this much。 Not since Heartbreaker Bay。 So much of her work has skewed more women's fiction rather than the heartwarming contemporary romance where she started。 This, though, this is a strong return to form with so much to love。 Dual protagonists who don't trust love and the guys who are exactly what they need。 A nosy as hell meddling family。 Strong ties and, of course, the family you make。 Three cheers for this new series and I ca It's been a long time since I've loved one of Jill Shalvis' books this much。 Not since Heartbreaker Bay。 So much of her work has skewed more women's fiction rather than the heartwarming contemporary romance where she started。 This, though, this is a strong return to form with so much to love。 Dual protagonists who don't trust love and the guys who are exactly what they need。 A nosy as hell meddling family。 Strong ties and, of course, the family you make。 Three cheers for this new series and I can't wait for what's next! 。。。more

I won a copy of The Family You Make through a Goodreads giveaway。 Jane and Levi face a potentially life ending accident and build a connection that develops throughout this novel。 We also meet Jane's best friend, Charlotte, and the next door neighbor, Mateo。 Both Jane and Levi have felt like the odd guy out most of their lives but not when they spend time with each other。 I thought this was a well developed story for most of the book but felt like it wrapped up too quickly at the end。 I wanted m I won a copy of The Family You Make through a Goodreads giveaway。 Jane and Levi face a potentially life ending accident and build a connection that develops throughout this novel。 We also meet Jane's best friend, Charlotte, and the next door neighbor, Mateo。 Both Jane and Levi have felt like the odd guy out most of their lives but not when they spend time with each other。 I thought this was a well developed story for most of the book but felt like it wrapped up too quickly at the end。 I wanted more details of Charlotte and Mateo's relationship。 Overall, a very good read from one of my favorite authors。 I'm looking forward to more books set in Sunset Cove。 。。。more

In The Family You Make, we meet the town of Sunrise Cove (set near Lake Tahoe), the Cutler Family, Jane Parks, and a small group of the doctors and nurses who make up the community’s emergency services。The focus here is on Jane and Levi (who meet under less than ideal circumstances) and Charlotte and Mateo (neighbors and coworkers)。 It was entertaining as well as heartwarming to watch these two couples navigate the roadblocks to becoming the people they are meant to be。 Ms Shalvis once again use In The Family You Make, we meet the town of Sunrise Cove (set near Lake Tahoe), the Cutler Family, Jane Parks, and a small group of the doctors and nurses who make up the community’s emergency services。The focus here is on Jane and Levi (who meet under less than ideal circumstances) and Charlotte and Mateo (neighbors and coworkers)。 It was entertaining as well as heartwarming to watch these two couples navigate the roadblocks to becoming the people they are meant to be。 Ms Shalvis once again used humor to tackle some serious issues and gave us a community that I am glad to have met and am looking forward to getting to know better。 。。。more

This is one of my favorite Jill Shalvis' books yet! Is Jane's best friend, whom she rents a room from smothering her, is the alley cat too much? I loved reading all about Levi and his family and the troubles they are going through from an ex-husband of his sister, the near death experience, and falling in love。 Plus the rekindling of a friendship between two buds that drifted after the loss of a close friend。 There is also a bonus love story included in this and it is great to see the dynamics of that relationship play out。 Adds another dimension to the overall story。I loved the characters, the meddling family, the close friendships, and the new ones that get made。 Plus the love story of two people that were just meant to be together! 。。。more
